It’s the true story of a Japanese Akita pup that fell in love with his owner.
Everyday the dog would walk his owner to the train station and each evening he’d be waiting to walk him back home. As you would expect, the owner and Hatchi became best friends.
If this wasn’t touching enough…while at work one day, the owner suffered a heart attack and never returned home. Hatchi returned every day thereafter…hoping to greet his best friend coming off the train.
Still not heart breaking enough? Hatchi did this every day for NINE YEARS.
Eventually, Hatchi passed…according to the movie at the train station forever waiting for his owner’s return. A statue was erected in his honor.
There’s something about the loyalty of an animal. That unbiased trust. That dedication to true love. It breaks my heart every time.
When I traveled for work, I would tell Puzzle how long I was going to be gone. I’d tell him what day it was and count out the days until my return. Not to be morbid, but I didn’t want him wondering if I was coming back. And should something happen that prevented me from returning, I didn’t want him forever waiting.
I didn’t want him to feel like Hatchi.
If you love animals and are in need of a good cry, watch this movie. It’s adorable and heart wrenching…all at the same time. If you can’t bare the thought of watching the heart break, just trust that your animals love you as much…maybe even more than…you love them.
R.I.P Hatchi.
