The result has been putting on a few extra pounds. Seeing numbers on the scale that I haven’t seen in years. Now, I know I’m not fat. Not saying I am. But after tiptoeing around the buffet table at Thanksgiving and Christmas, I decided January was going to be different.
Most people make a New Year’s resolution to cut back…work out more…get healthy. I did the exact opposite. With a wedding, Mr. Universe’s birthday, and my birthday all in January, I was tired of thinking about everything I put in my mouth…tired of trying to cram a workout in nearly every day. Physically, I needed a break.
Being just a little over half way through the month and mere days from my birthday, I’m psyched to enjoy some birthday cake…and even more excited for February. It’s typically one of the dreariest months but also the shortest so it’s perfect to jump back on the wagon. And I’m ready…especially after watching this video.
It’s true I’ll have a little more jiggle when I dive in and pull back the reigns. But I’ll also be more energized to modify my diet and hit the gym than I have been in a long time. Nothing puts the pep in my step on the treadmill quite like having a goal after giving myself permission to not have one.
I mean, I haven’t totally stopped working out and I’m not eating cheeseburgers and fries for every meal or anything, but what I have stopped doing is persecuting myself when I do. So as I make my way to February to kick off my “almost New Year’s resolution”, I’m ready to get healthy in both body, mind, and spirit. I’m ready to push myself harder than I have in a while. I’m ready to try out some new workouts…and new recipes. I’m ready to kick balls, deal with it.
